Shifting states (NZTrio Commission 2005) – 12.5′

sabbia (sand)

filigrana (filigree)

bullicante (with bubbles)

millefiore (thousand flowers)

sommerso (submerged)

This set of short pieces is inspired by an interest in mid-Twentieth Century glassmaking, in which the process of changing state, or changing phase, is essential to the production of the many types of art glass. Each piece is titled with the name of a different technique and express some of the processes of freezing, melting, vaporization, condensation and sublimation.

Shifting states was commissioned by NZTrio with funding from Creative New Zealand.

For those of you who haven't heard - there's a new Auckland winter festival #ElementalAKL happening right now and we're stoked to be part of it with our first Loft concert in July. It's all about livening up the darker, colder months with food, entertainment and community enthusiasm. Here's the latest from the food side of things to warm your tums: https://www.aucklandnz.com/elementalfestival/feast
