Every month is NZ Music Month for us. But in May we get to celebrate with you all, so Happy NZ Music Month everyone!

It was fantastic to see so many of you “White Nighters” at our Auckland Art Gallery concerts in March and we loved getting down country to celebrate the opening of the brand new Marlborough Civic Theatre in Blenheim. Thanks to Mary Gow and the Mulled Wine Series for allowing us to share a gorgeous programme with the lovely people in Paekakariki. Thanks also to Diocesan School for Girls for getting stuck in to our NZTrio Live! project. We hope to bring NZTrio Live! to schools all around the country. Look out Sacred Heart and Pinehurst – you’re next.

LOFT SERIES 2016:

As you know, our Loft Series is now on sale. We’ve called the three concerts ZOOM, GLOW and FLARE and each one has a matching photo utilising that photographic effect, taken by our uber-talented photographer Kristian Frires.

ZOOM, GLOW, FLARE

In this year’s Loft Series we’ve introduced a repeat performance of each Sunday concert on the Tuesday following. We’ve got a mouth-watering line up of music to share with you, including collaborations with Chinese guzheng ace Xia Jing and New Zealand’s own opera megastar Simon O’Neill. ZOOM kicks off on June 12 and 14. Click here for all the details.

Don’t worry Wellington folks, on June 16 you get the chance to experience ZOOM at the City Gallery. See our Upcoming Performances page for more info.

OUR NEW WEBSITE:

You’ll see that those Loft series photos also feature on our brand new website. It’s the same ol’ address, nztrio.com and you’ll find a new look and lots of new features. There’s plenty to hear, read, watch and see so have a poke around. We invite you, our NZ3 family, to let us know what you think – your feedback is important to us.

COMPOSER CORNER: CHRIS WATSON

6bb7288f-47ec-4efe-85c8-fc5cf2284d1aYou’ll know Chris Watson as an established NZ composer but you may not know that he’s also the man behind the camera in our SOUNZ videos (see LOOK & LISTEN).

We’ve played his piece Schemata – Three Views of an Imaginary Object before – in Turkey of all places – and we thought it was high time New Zealand audiences heard it too, so we’re featuring it in our concert ZOOM, which you can catch in June in Auckland and Wellington. Find out more about Chris Watson here and visit our Upcoming Performances page for more info.

Great news :)

NZTrio was deeply concerned to read of the proposed changes to RNZ Concert this week. The removal of presenters and producers will dramatically diminish the rich and articulate experience currently imparted to a diverse range of listeners across Aotearoa New Zealand. It will mean the total loss of valuable access and context that presenters offer listeners and also the hugely valuable commentary, insight and critique provided to the whole industry by these uniquely skilled professionals. Added to this, the move to AM is very difficult to understand. Listeners will be frustrated by the reduction in sound quality, with many not ready or able to move to online streaming. If you haven't already done so, please consider signing the petition to show your support for the presenters and producers and to keep RNZ Concert on FM: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/community_petitions/paul_thompson_and_willy_macalister_at_radio_new_ze_keep_rnz_concert_on_fm_and_retain_their_presenters/
